Belzona 1381 is a two-component coating designed to protect equipment from erosion and corrosion damage.

Belzona 1381 allows for large applications to be effectively and quickly completed, dramatically reducing downtime. This solvent-free coating also offers outstanding chemical resistance and is available in light colours, aiding visibility during application and inspection in dark vessels.

In this video, we will demonstrate how to repair a pump piston rod with Belzona 1381

First, prepare the surface of the area to be repaired. Roughen the damaged or worn area using a lathe and machine the shaft until you achieve at least a 1 mm depth.

When the correct depth is reached, Roughen the surface to create a profile, so the product can adhere better to the substrate.

Clean and degrease well the prepared surface before applying Belzona 1381

Delimit the application area by masking the surrounding area.

Using a scale prepare the mix of Belzona 1381 base and solidifier in a rate of 5 parts base and 2 parts solidifier by weight

Mix thoroughly the base and solidifier until you achieve a uniform material free of any streaks

Once mixed, apply the product on the prepared surface using a brush. application thickness should exceed shaft diameter by 2mm to allow for final machining.

For better application allow the lathe to run slowly and apply the product progressively.

Once the area is completely covered, allow the product to cure.

Using the lathe, remove the excess material from the piston rod

Finish to the final size and tolerance, use sandpaper to smooth and polish the surface of the Belzona product.

The application is now complete.
