Rebuilding Damaged Industrial Cables Using a 3D Former

Play Video
In this video, we look at how Belzona 2131 (D&A Fluid Elastomer) can be used to rebuild worn and damaged cables via injection into a #3D former.

Industrial cabling can suffer from severe wear and damage. Especially in environments such as Mines, Quarries, where #cables are frequently dragged and battered throughout their day-to-day use. This can lead to deterioration of the rubber casing, exposing the wires underneath.

Using Belzona's elastomer materials it is possible rebuild the cable casing to its original profile. This can be achieved via a 3D-printed former, which matches the exact dimensions of the equipment.

Step-by-step instructions:
- Using CAD software, create the former to exact dimensions
- Abrade cable surface to achieve optimum surface profile
- Mask the repair area on both sides for a neat application
- Condition prepared surface with Belzona 2911
- Coat the 3D-Printed former with release agent (Belzona 9411) prior to applying product
- Mix the repair material - Belzona 2131
- Coat the inside of the former with a layer of mixed product
- Pour the remaining product into a cartridge
- Apply the former securely into place using cable ties to ensure that it is pressed firmly together
- Inject the material via the injection port, prviding 100% contact throughout the former
- Once excess material exudes from the ventilation port, wipe away and plug the holes
- Once cured, remove the former to reveal the completed application
