How to Repair a Weld Seam Without Welding

In this video, we demonstrate how to repair a weld seam on a tank without welding. The repair is achieved using #Belzonacoldbonding technique.

You will see how corroded equipment can be simply repaired in situ with our pioneering injection bonding method.

Cold bonding is described as the joining of two parts or materials without the use of heat. Traditional bonding techniques such as welding use high temperatures generated by an electric arc or the burning of gasses to ‘melt’ the materials so that they fuse into one. Belzona cold bonding is achieved with the use of an adhesive that forms a bond between the two materials.

Materials used:

For this repair, we used #Belzona1161 (Super UW-Metal) to bond the plate and Belzona 5831 (ST-Barrier) to repair the #weldseam by injection.

How-to Guide:

Step 1: Prepare the surface of the weld area using a grinder.
Step 2: Clean the repair area to remove grease, oil and dirt.
Step 3: Mix Belzona 1161 until a uniform material was achieved.
Step 4: Firmly apply a layer of Belzona 1161 to the edges of the plate with a stiff bristled brush to ensure full contact with the surface of the tank. Additional material should also be applied to the edge of the tank repair area.
Step 5: Next, build up the Belzona 1161 around the edges of the plate to ensure a proper seal.
Step 6: Position the plate and firmly press it onto the repair area.
Step 7: Remove any excess Belzona material with an applicator to ensure an aesthetically pleasing finish.
Step 8: Mix Belzona 5831 until a uniform material is achieved.
Step 9: Next, load the injection cartridge with Belzona 5831 and assemble the pneumatic injection gun.
Step 10: Inject the Belzona material through the injection port, once you reach the vent ports they should be sealed with corks.
