How to Attach a Ladder to a Tank Without Welding

This video highlights how fittings such as ladders and cell phone antenna mounts can be bonded to tanks using 100% solids Belzona #coldbondingtechnology. This video highlights #howtobondmetaltometalwithoutwelding. http://www.belzona.com/en/focus/composite_repairs.aspx

To minimize the risks of welding, utilizing materials that are applied and cured at ambient temperatures can offer a viable alternative for bonding fittings to metallic surfaces which is safer and less hazardous than hot work.

This high performance cold curing system has already been used to bond a multitude of substrates in various industries and has been perfected for bonding tank furniture. Our solvent-free materials bonds strongly to wet, oily and manually prepared surfaces and cold cure resulting in no hot work.

Materials Used:

To bond this ladder, we used #Belzona1161 and Belzona 9111 (Cleaner Degreaser)

How-to Guide:

Step 1: Prepare each of the bond areas using a grit blaster. To ensure the blasting is completed to minimum standard of cleanliness recommended by the product manufacturer, please view the IFU http://www.belzona.com/ViewFile.aspx?id=61011
The profile can be checked with a replica tape.

Step 2: Clean all the blasted bond areas with Belzona 9111 to remove all surface contaminants. This procedure should be completed on each of the ladder pads also.

Step 3: Mix Belzona 1161 as per the IFU above.

Step 4: Firmly apply the mixed Belzona material to each of the prepared areas of the tank with a stiff bristled brush. Additionally, the material should be applied to each ladder pad, pressing well into the surface and creating a sufficient build up in the center.

Step 5: Press the ladder with force against the side of the tank and secure it to allow proper curing.

Step 6: Remove the excess material from each of the ladder’s feet and remove the masking tape to finish the application.

By utilizing this solution, you can be assured of the safety of the integrity of your tank, its contents and for the personnel carrying out the application.
