A damaged carbon steel pipe was repaired using the Belzona SuperWrap composite repair system before being placed beneath the weight of the Red Dragon Monster Truck at Belzona's headquarters in Harrogate, UK. An identical unrepaired pipe was subjected to the same challenge for comparison.
Despite the enormous load, the pipe reinforced with Belzona SuperWrap successfully withstood the test, while the unrepaired pipe snapped under the truck's weight. To further demonstrate the forces involved, the monster truck also crushed a car, leaving the Belzona-repaired pipe as the only one to survive.
Belzona SuperWrap is a composite wrap system designed to restore the strength of holed, weakened, corroded and eroded pipework and tank walls. The system combines a 100% solids resin, a bespoke hybrid reinforcement sheet incorporating fibreglass and carbon fibre technology, and a release film to consolidate the repair, providing a cold-applied alternative to welding and component replacement.
