Anchoring Heavy Equipment with Belzona

Play Video
In this video, we demonstrate the process of anchoring heavy equipment onto a concrete base using Belzona 4111. The machinery experienced shear failure of its anchor bolts due to continuous use and dynamic loads. As a result, the equipment lost its secure connection to the foundation, leading to excessive vibration and movement, which put other mechanical components at risk. To resolve this issue, Belzona created new anchoring holes and applied Belzona 4111 to fix the anchor bolts and grout the underside of the equipment. Belzona 4111, an epoxy-based concrete repair material, can withstand the compressive forces needed to support the weight of the equipment while also providing enough ductility to better handle the constant effects of dynamic loads and stresses compared to traditional concrete.

In addition to its performance and durability, the entire Belzona procedure was completed in less than 48 hours, allowing our customer to minimize their operational shutdown and reduce revenue loss from the machine is down for maintenance. A traditional repair involving the pouring of a new concrete foundation would take over a month, as it would require demolishing the existing foundation, pouring new concrete, and allowing it to cure for 28 days.

This field application was filmed in collaboration with our authorized Belzona distributorship in Brazil, HITA Comércio e Serviços (www.hita.com.br).

 Application Steps:

Drill new holes for anchor bolts using an updated template.
Remove loose debris and excess moisture from the application areas.
Condition all application areas with Belzona 4911.
Position the equipment on the prepared base.
Mix Belzona 4111, a three-component concrete repair system (Base, Solidifier, Aggregate).
Adjust the final consistency by varying the amount of resin added, making it more or less fluid as needed.
Pour the mixture into the anchor bolt holes.
Insert anchor bolts into the holes.
Utilize venting holes to prevent air entrapment.
Allow the product to cure following its Instructions for Use

With the application now complete, the heavy equipment is securely anchored and ready for use.
